Schools in Hougang & the North-East

This hub brings together our guides to schools in Hougang, Sengkang and Punggol, with notes on Serangoon and Kovan too. Each guide lists the MOE primary and secondary schools in a town by location, taken from the Ministry of Education’s school directory, and explains the basics of Primary 1 registration. We do not rank schools. The aim is to help you see what is near your home, then visit open houses and read each school’s own website.

Schools in Hougang

Our Hougang schools guide covers the town’s nine primary schools, eight secondary schools and one junior college. Several carry names that suggest other places, such as Punggol Primary and Yio Chu Kang Primary, but both are in Hougang. If you are looking at a particular street, our Hougang HDB guide notes which schools sit along Hougang Avenue 8 and Street 93. In Serangoon, Lorong Chuan has a cluster of schools near its Circle Line station, including Nanyang Junior College.

Primary schools in Sengkang and Punggol

The younger towns added many schools as families moved in. Our Sengkang schools guide lists the twelve primary schools and seven secondary schools across Anchorvale, Compassvale, Rivervale and Fernvale, including Outram Secondary, which moved its intake to a new Anchorvale campus in 2026. The Punggol schools guide covers eleven primary and four secondary schools, grouped by estate with the nearest LRT stop. Neither town has a junior college, but Punggol is home to the Singapore Institute of Technology campus in the Punggol Digital District.

For Primary 1 registration, what matters most is the distance between your home and the school, and two blocks in the same town can fall on different sides of a boundary. Our guide to living in the North-East explains how to check this with MOE’s SchoolFinder before you choose where to live. For quiet study space outside school, see our guide to libraries in the North-East.
