Teacher leading a class as students raise their hands

There are four secondary schools in Punggol and eleven primary schools, according to the Ministry of Education’s school directory for the Punggol planning area. Because Punggol is one of Singapore’s youngest towns, most of these schools opened from the early 2000s onwards, and they sit close to the HDB estates they serve, usually within a few minutes of an LRT stop. There is no junior college in the town.

We list schools by location only. We do not rank them. Visit open houses and read each school’s own website to see which one suits your child.

Schools by neighbourhood

  • Edgefield and Edgedale Plains: the biggest cluster, on the East loop side of the town. Edgefield, Greendale, Horizon, Mee Toh and Oasis primary schools share these two roads with Greendale and Punggol secondary schools, and Edgefield Secondary is close by on Punggol Field. Expect heavy traffic at drop-off and dismissal.
  • Around the town centre and the waterway: Punggol Green Primary on Punggol Walk, Punggol View Primary on Punggol Place, Valour Primary on Punggol Central and Waterway Primary on Punggol Drive, all within reach of Punggol MRT and Waterway Point.
  • North, towards the coast: Northshore Primary on Northshore Drive, and Punggol Cove Primary and Yusof Ishak Secondary on Sumang Walk. These serve the newer blocks near Punggol Point and the Punggol Digital District.

Watch the name. Punggol Primary School is not in Punggol: it is at Hougang Avenue 8, and appears in our Hougang schools guide. Several Punggol primary and secondary schools share a name, such as Edgefield and Greendale. Whether a pair is formally affiliated affects Secondary 1 posting, so check each school’s profile on MOE SchoolFinder rather than assuming.

Getting to school

Most Punggol children walk or take the LRT or a short bus ride. Both LRT loops stop within a few minutes of most schools, and the school roads are lined with HDB blocks. MOE’s directory lists nearby bus services for each school, but routes change, so check a journey planner. Our Punggol transport guide explains the loops.

School buses are arranged by each school with private operators, not by MOE. Ask at the school’s general office or open house.

How to check home-school distance

For Primary 1 registration, distance matters when a school has more applicants than places. MOE gives priority to children living within 1 km of the school, then those within 1–2 km, then those further away.

  1. Open SchoolQuery on OneMap, the Singapore Land Authority’s map.
  2. Enter your home address or postal code.
  3. OneMap lists the schools within 1 km and 1–2 km of your address. This is the measure MOE uses, not the walking distance.

Punggol’s schools are packed closely together, so one block can be within 1 km of three or four schools while the next block is not. Always check your exact address on OneMap, and read MOE’s rules on which address you can register with if you are moving.

P1 registration and Secondary 1 basics

MOE runs P1 registration online, and the 2026 exercise ran from June to August in five phases: Phase 1 for siblings, then 2A, 2B, 2C and 2C Supplementary. If a phase is oversubscribed, places go by citizenship, then distance, then ballot. MOE’s vacancy and balloting data from past years shows which schools were oversubscribed.

On 10 September 2026, MOE announced changes starting with the 2027 exercise, for children entering Primary 1 in 2028. Most schools will reserve 60 places in Phase 2C, up from 40. Schools with fewer than 180 P1 places keep 40. Details are on the MOE P1 registration page.

For secondary school, pupils are posted after the PSLE based on their results, their choices and any affiliation. Compare programmes, co-curricular activities and affiliations on MOE SchoolFinder.

What’s planned

In 2023, MOE said Pathlight School 3, a special education school for students with autism, would be built in Punggol instead of Tengah, tentatively around 2032. Plans can change, so treat this as indicative.

Rules and dates change every year. Use this page for orientation only, and follow MOE’s instructions for the year your child registers.
