Buangkok Hawker Centre is the food centre on level 2 of Sengkang Grand Mall, at 70 Compassvale Bow, directly next to Buangkok MRT station. NEA says it started operating in November 2023, with 38 cooked food stalls and seating for over 700. It is cooked food only, with no wet market, and it is the main hawker option for the Buangkok and Compassvale estates between Hougang and Sengkang.

For the mall around it, see our Sengkang Grand Mall guide.

Getting there

Take the North East Line to Buangkok (NE15), use Exit A into Sengkang Grand Mall, and take the escalator or lift up to level 2. Buangkok Bus Interchange, which opened on 1 December 2024, is part of the same development, so it is easy to eat between a train and a bus. Drivers can use the mall’s basement car park.

How the centre is run

Buangkok is one of NEA’s newer hawker centres run under the socially-conscious enterprise model. NEA builds the centre and sets the rules, and a private operator manages it day to day. For Buangkok, that operator is Fei Siong Social Enterprise, part of the Fei Siong food group, appointed in April 2023. It also runs Ci Yuan Hawker Centre in Hougang.

In practice the operator handles cleaning, stall leasing and promotions, and runs a website and social media for the centre. Stalls also tend to change more often than at a decades-old centre, as new hawkers try their luck and some move on. Treat any list of stalls, including ours, as a snapshot.

What to eat

The 38 stalls cover the full hawker range: chicken rice, fishball and minced meat noodles, prawn noodles, wanton mee, kway chap, yong tau foo, fried rice, porridge, Western, Thai and Vietnamese, plus drinks, desserts and pancakes. A few long-running names from elsewhere in Singapore have opened branches here:

Eng Kee Chicken Wings

Level 2 · fried chicken wings

A well-known name for deep-fried chicken wings. A popular side order to go with rice or noodles from another stall.

Bai Nian Niang Dou Fu

Level 2 · yong tau foo

A long-running yong tau foo brand with several outlets around Singapore, known for its yong tau foo with a thick, savoury sauce. A good choice if you want something lighter.

Feng Ji Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice

Level 2 · chicken rice

A hawker branch of an established chicken rice name, serving steamed and roasted boneless chicken with fragrant rice. Lunchtime queues are common. It also features in our chicken rice guide to Hougang, Sengkang and Punggol.

Stall hours vary. Most open for breakfast or lunch, some stay open into the evening, and each takes its own rest day. If you are coming for one stall, check its hours first.

Cleaning closures

Like every NEA hawker centre, Buangkok closes for a short spring clean each quarter, when almost all stalls are shut. As of September 2026, NEA’s schedule shows the next closure as 16–17 November 2026. Earlier closures this year were in February, May and August. Check NEA’s cleaning schedule for the latest dates, and see our North-East hawker cleaning schedule for other centres.

On cleaning days, the restaurants and food kiosks in the mall downstairs stay open, and Compass One is one MRT stop north. Hougang’s three NEA centres are also close by; see our Hougang hawker centres guide.

Eating here with children

Because the hawker centre is inside a mall, it is one of the easier places in the North-East for a family meal. Sengkang Grand Mall has nursing rooms on level 1, toilets on every level and two playgrounds, one of them on level 2 near the hawker centre. Buangkok Community Club, on level 1 of the same development, runs children’s classes, so many parents combine a class with lunch upstairs. With a pram, use the lifts from the MRT exit rather than the escalators.

At busy times, send one adult to find a table first, then order. Stalls with pancakes, desserts and drinks are handy for younger children who are not keen on a full hawker meal. Bring a small pack of wet wipes, as the tables turn over quickly at peak times.

Tips for visiting

  • Peak times: weekday lunch fills up with office and school crowds, and weekend dinner with families. Mid-afternoon is calmest.
  • Seats: a packet of tissues on a table means the seat is taken. Look elsewhere rather than argue.
  • Tray return: return trays and crockery to the return points. NEA enforces this at all hawker centres.
  • Payment: most stalls accept e-payment, but carry a little cash just in case.

Other food nearby

Coffee shops under the HDB blocks around Compassvale and Buangkok Crescent cover breakfast and supper. For a wider choice, Compass One in Sengkang and Hougang Mall are one MRT stop away in either direction. Our Sengkang food guide covers more places to eat north of the station.
